TGI PiDAY

Roles: Creative Direction / Concept / Lead Design and Animation

Thank God It’s Pi Day (TGI PiDAY) is an experimental side project celebrating the most mathematically remarkable day of the year—one I wasn’t going to let pass without a proper tribute.

Every year, March 14 (3/14) marks Pi Day, but a Pi Day of the century, when the date matches the first five digits of pi, is far rarer. The last one was on 3/14/15, which was the perfect moment to bring this project to life. The next won’t happen again until 2115.

TGI PiDAY started as a passion project that I pitched, organized, designed, and directed, rallying the entire motion graphics team at .MONKS (MediaMonks) for a spontaneous creative sprint. Every available animator contributed to this playful, collaborative homage to Pi, shaping an endless sequence of grid-based animations, each inspired by the digits of Pi.

But we didn’t stop there. To push the experiment further, we teamed up with the sound department at MediaMonks, designing a unique musical progression where each digit of Pi wasn’t just visualized but also interpreted in sound. The result was a harmony that emerged from the mathematical randomness of Pi itself.

Brought to you by HTML’s element, Thank God It’s Pi Day is inhabited by an endless sequence of grid-based animations shaped after the figures of Pi. Since the website is not live anymore, you may see a preview of the site here.
