ORBYT

Roles: Direction, Design, Animation, Lookdev, Compositing.

‍A launch film for South Korea's first multi-sensory entertainment venue. An LED dome with spatial audio and real-time transmission. The first planet in a planned global network.

ORBYT is a fusion of two words. Orbit, the trajectory. Byte, the smallest unit of digital experience.

42 Orbits, 2 Parameters

Music and sound design.

Five letters. Five tones. Five objects.

The animation opens and closes with the same five-note mnemonic jingle, one note for each letter of ORBYT. Five objects orbit a central planet, each one triggering its tone as it passes. The camera pulls back to reveal a vast system with one central force.

‍ ‍

Animatic first. Pim van den Heuvel's score followed the structure. Animation followed the music until completion.

ORBYT's dome resolution is massive. The animation had to scale with it. Everything was built procedurally so the brand can move across any format the platform shows next, and across any of the future planets in the network.

‍ ‍

50 planet tests were made. 10 made it into the final. Each one tailor-made within the procedural setup.

The orbital line cluster near the end is a Python-driven Blender system, written in dialogue with Claude. 42 orbits, each with a planet and a fading trail, all controlled from two global parameters.

‍ ‍

The workflow is simple. Write the intent. Simplify it. Test on storyboards. Prompt the system into existence. What would have taken a couple of days came together fast enough to test multiple variations before committing.

‍ ‍

This is the first project where my CS background and my motion practice fully bridged.‍ ‍

The brief was 15 seconds, and Juan's animatic already had the structure. I built the score from the name out. Five letters, five tones, each triggered by an object passing the central planet. That synced sequence became the heartbeat of the piece. The jingle plays the film in and out. The rest of the music follows the gravity of the central force, sound rising and receding as the camera pulls back to reveal the wider system.
